Interview with Dr. Dongjun Lim of Timeless Dermatology Mapo — Part II

reviewed by 타임리스피부과 임동준 원장|2026-09-14

6. Is there a thought or commitment you remind yourself of every day in your practice?

“I constantly ask myself: How can I achieve a better outcome for this patient?”

Every morning when I step into the clinic, I remind myself never to become complacent.

Medicine should never become a matter of simply repeating yesterday’s treatment. Every patient I meet has a different skin type, different concerns, and a different response to treatment.

That is why, throughout every consultation and procedure, I continue to ask myself:

“How can I achieve a better result for this patient while minimizing unnecessary risks and side effects?”

I believe better care comes from asking that question repeatedly and paying close attention to the individual in front of me.

Rather than relying on a fixed approach, I try to find the most appropriate solution for each patient’s skin, goals, and circumstances.

7. What beauty trends are you currently paying attention to, and which procedures are you particularly experienced in?

“My focus is personalized anti-aging with Ultherapy and Thermage, with more than 100 precision lifting treatments performed each month.”

Rather than simply following rapidly changing beauty trends, I believe it is more important to provide treatments that have been thoroughly evaluated for both clinical efficacy and safety.

My particular focus is on anti-aging treatments designed to help patients age more gradually and naturally, with an emphasis on personalized lifting and skin tightening.

Among these, I have extensive experience combining Ultherapy and Thermage to address different aspects of facial aging.

The goal is not to create an exaggerated or overly tightened appearance, but to achieve a refined improvement in facial contours while preserving the patient’s natural features.

I personally perform more than 100 precision lifting treatments on average each month, tailoring each treatment to factors such as skin thickness, facial structure, volume distribution, and the degree and location of laxity.

For me, the value of combining lifting technologies lies not in simply using more devices, but in understanding the role each treatment should play for the individual patient.

8. Is there a particular patient experience that has stayed with you throughout your career as a dermatologist?

“I still remember a man in his 40s who had never undergone a dermatologic procedure before. Watching not only his skin but also his confidence change was especially rewarding.”

More men today are becoming interested in skin health, preventive care, and the idea of aging well.

One patient who remains particularly memorable was a man in his 40s who came to the clinic feeling extremely nervous because he had never received a dermatologic laser or aesthetic treatment before.

We began conservatively, with glabellar Botox to soften the appearance of his frown lines while preserving a natural expression.

From there, we developed a step-by-step treatment plan to improve overall skin firmness, enlarged pores, and skin tone.

As the treatments progressed, he became visibly excited by the changes he was seeing — firmer-looking skin, a more refined texture, and a more even complexion.

What stayed with me most was the expression on his face when he looked in the mirror and realized that the improvement still felt like him.

Seeing his confidence grow alongside the changes in his skin gave me an enormous sense of fulfillment as a dermatologist.

It reminded me that dermatologic treatment is not simply about changing what we see on the surface. Sometimes, even a subtle and natural improvement can meaningfully change how a person feels about themselves.

9. When do you feel happiest and most fulfilled as a physician?

“It is when my patient and I are working toward the same goal, and the final result matches exactly what we had hoped to achieve.”

Successful skin treatment is a collaborative process between the physician and the patient.

During the first consultation, we discuss what the patient is concerned about, what they hope to improve, and what kind of result would feel right for them.

From there, my role is to translate those expectations into a treatment plan that is medically appropriate, realistic, and safe.

The moments I find most rewarding are when the direction we agreed on at the beginning is reflected in the final result.

When a patient looks at the result with a smile and I find myself smiling with them, I feel an indescribable sense of happiness and fulfillment.

Those moments are a reminder of why communication and shared expectations are such important parts of good dermatologic care.

10. What is one promise you would like to make to every patient who visits Timeless Dermatology Mapo?

“I promise to listen carefully, communicate openly, and pursue the best possible outcome without compromising safety.”

Excellent treatment cannot come from a physician making decisions unilaterally.

Even subtle concerns that may seem difficult to describe can matter greatly to the person experiencing them. Lifestyle, treatment preferences, tolerance for downtime, and the kind of change a patient considers natural should all be part of the conversation.

That is why I place great importance on listening carefully and creating an environment where patients feel comfortable expressing what they truly want from treatment.

Only after understanding those details can I recommend a plan that is both medically appropriate and personally meaningful.

Above all, safety will always remain the foundation of every treatment I perform.

Within that foundation, I will continue to pursue precise, thoughtful treatment designed to achieve the best possible result for each individual patient.

That is the promise I intend to keep with every patient who comes to Timeless Dermatology Mapo.
