Interview with Dr. Dongjun Lim of Timeless Dermatology Mapo — Part I

reviewed by 타임리스피부과 임동준 원장|2026-09-14

1. What inspired you to become a doctor, and why did you choose dermatology?

“My own experiences with dermatographism and psoriasis taught me how deeply skin health can affect quality of life. Today, that perspective also shapes my interest in helping patients age naturally and well.”

When I was young, I remember how reassuring it felt to receive medical care when I was sick and gradually regain my health.

Those experiences left a lasting impression on me and naturally led me toward medicine. I wanted to become a physician who could offer that same sense of healing and reassurance to others.

My decision to specialize in dermatology was also deeply personal.

I have experienced both psoriasis and dermatographism myself.

Although neither was life-threatening in my case, I learned firsthand how profoundly a skin condition can affect everyday life, confidence, and overall well-being.

That experience gave me a deeper understanding of the concerns patients may find difficult to express, and it strengthened my desire to approach skin conditions with both empathy and systematic medical care.

Over time, my interests have also expanded to the concept of slow aging.

We cannot stop the passage of time, but I believe we can help the skin remain healthy and resilient as it changes.

My goal is not to make someone look artificially younger, but to help each patient preserve the health and qualities of their own skin so they can age in a way that feels natural, balanced, and true to themselves.

2. What principle guides you most when caring for patients as a board-certified dermatologist?

“Never excessive, always natural. I firmly believe in avoiding unnecessary treatments and procedures.”

To me, the purpose of dermatologic and aesthetic treatment is to bring out what is naturally attractive about each individual.

Overtreatment or an overly dramatic approach can create unwanted effects and may even take away from the features that make someone uniquely themselves.

That is why my first principle is simple: keep treatment appropriate, restrained, and natural.

I recommend only treatments that I believe are genuinely necessary for the individual patient, based on their skin, concerns, and goals.

I do not believe in adding procedures simply because more can be done.

Sometimes the better decision is knowing what not to treat.

3. How do you continue to improve your practice, and what do you hope patients remember after visiting Timeless Dermatology?

“I want every patient to leave feeling genuinely reassured that coming here was the right decision.”

The four years I spent training in dermatology at a university hospital gave me a strong academic and clinical foundation.

But becoming a dermatologist was never the end of the learning process.

I continue to review the latest dermatology literature from Korea and abroad every week, attend academic conferences, and stay current with developments in dermatologic medicine and aesthetic treatment.

For me, that continuous learning is essential to providing better care.

Patients may arrive at Timeless Dermatology Mapo carrying concerns, discomfort, or uncertainty about their skin.

By the time their consultation and treatment are complete, I hope they leave with a sense of reassurance and confidence — thinking, “I’m glad I came here.”

That is the kind of experience I want every patient to remember.

4. If you had to describe yourself as a doctor in one word, what would it be — and why?

“Dependable.”

I believe one of the most important qualities a physician can offer is a sense of dependability — the feeling that patients can place their trust in their doctor without uncertainty throughout the course of their care.

That trust has to be earned through careful diagnosis, attention to detail, consistency, and sound medical judgment.

I want to be the kind of dermatologist patients feel comfortable relying on, not only for a single treatment, but whenever concerns about their skin arise.

Someone steady, attentive, and dependable throughout the process.

5. What kind of doctor — and person — would you like to be remembered as?

“A trusted dermatologist who stays by my patients’ side throughout every stage of their skin health journey.”

I do not want to be a doctor patients see only once when a particular treatment is needed.

I hope to become a dermatologist who understands how their skin changes over time and can care for it throughout the different stages of life.

Skin concerns evolve. What a patient needs today may be very different from what they need several years from now.

I want to be there for that entire process — helping patients make thoughtful decisions about their skin health rather than simply providing one treatment at a time.

Ultimately, my goal is to earn the kind of trust that makes a patient think:

“Whenever I have a concern about my skin, I know I can turn to Dr. Dongjun Lim.”

That is the kind of dermatologist I hope to become.
